Spare Change For Carson, anyone?

Well hey hmm a rather useless rant post but ...

..

MTV has killed TRL :( ... I was pretty shocked... 10 years running and all the sudden it is gone yea... TRL is basically a video countdown show right.. Yeah but.. that plus we've seen the rise of many musicians through the show...

I caught the show's finale... it was very surreal.. I mean.. all the sudden there Backstreet Boys preforming I Want It That Way for the last time on TRL.. and it has been almost ten years already since that song.. I mean ... there'll be the day when all the songs we grew up with will end up on the vintage channel... The scariest thing is that is sooner than we think it is... All things are finite right but yeah.. it was just weird... 10 years since all those songs ... You really wonder where all that lost time went too sometimes.. It was quick...

The show well is pretty much to the go-to place to check out pop culture news for some time, and actually also a place for artists to shamelessly promote their newest albums or whatnot :)

MTV for the past few years.. have been seemingly obsessed with finding reality TV stars.. It has been such a less music channel as the years when by.. Justin Timberlake pretty much summed it up when he said on one VMA; "MTV needs to start showing more music videos" Before the cancellation, most of the videos on the show were on for about.. 45 seconds.. yeah instead we got more and more about why Whitney is not on good terms with Lacey in the Hills, and just mainly all this reality tv show crap which we didn't want to see on TRL and on the channel... I mean yes they draw viewers but couldn't they have just moved all the reality shows onto another channel.. It had gotten so bad that 75% of the time I turned on to MTV , there was either a reality show or another rap video again...

Hmm what happened and led to TRL's somewhat timely demise? Some would say.. internet killed the video star.. And yeah I guess it's true as a huge stake of the youth are the Youtube generation.. there are lotsa free shows to catch online and plus yeah its definitely more convenient if you're always out right? I mean as for music now.. I think its all by word of mouth from friends or self interest in the culture.. I have to admit that well for me at least, nearing the end, TRL had long lost its way and no longer a reliable source for music.

But ... yes all this ranting.. but that's not to say that TRL will be missed.. I mean ... yeah sure there were loads of problems with the show.. but it didn't mean we wanted it axed .. we just wanted the show fixed... Where we will go now to see P.Diddy/Puff Daddy promote something whether his album or "Vote or Die?' And most importantly, what will happen to Carson Daly? Well haha actually yeah he left the show earlier on and already got his own show yea lol. Well there is .. FNMTV which is hosted by Pete Wentz of Fallout Boy , which is sorta being pushed as this generation's TRL.. but unfortunately I hate Pete Wentz ( but I do like Fallout Boy , just not the frontman)... It's just sucky to see that TRL will be canceled and crap like Paris' New BFF will still be airing..which if you ever had the misfortune to catch an episode , you will realize that whoever wins the show , loses ... I just hope that MTV starts to be all about the music again.. I imagine that 20 years from now , MTV may have to shutdown yea...

Well... Anyway end this rather bleak point for MTV with my favourite moment on TRL... It was on the week when 9/11 happened.. And basically the vibe for New York (where TRL is at) was just devastated... I mean for us, really .. who heard of terrorists until 9/11? I mean well it was all so foreign until it hit the heart of the country, NY... Well .. yeah the story goes is that TRL isn't sure whether they would go on with the show or ... well ... could they even do it given the state of things... But they did.. It was back to business :) and yes they did not go on without giving respect but yeah they went on.. And usually on the show, you get people calling requesting videos or giving shout outs.. but this episode, it was the artists that called in to check in on NY... It was pretty much a awesome moment because.. everyone was united.. I mean whether you were a teacher, or stormed the beaches in Normandy or a music artist.. everyone felt the same feelings.. no man was bigger than the other as well everyone pulled together yea. For me it was great cause... well the terrorists attacks and you could decide to not go on with the show.. But that would be bending the will to terrorism... it would have been living fear of the next strike but instead they decided to go on air and really , a whole nation was really in need of heart at the time.... So yeah... well it was a great run :)
